Crushed from volcanic rock, pozzolana spreads as brownish-violet gravel that shifts from light to dark as rain and sun come and go. Used as a mineral mulch it curbs evaporation, smothers weeds and shields roots from frost, lasting season after season — provided you remember that it adds nothing to the soil’s fertility.
Its red brown color is also highly appealing because it changes from light to dark depending on rain and sun.
